The rights of the writer / Hawliau i Ysgifennu
I designed this poster in 2011 to illustrate writers' entitlements. Although Daniel Pennac's 'Rights of the Reader', as illustrated by Quentin Blake, was well known, there seemed no equivalent manifesto for writers. It seemed important to emphasise properties of the writing process which were in danger of being overlooked in the rush for written 'outcomes'.
Although the project has moved on since 2011, many teachers still like to display this poster in their classrooms. They discuss it, and give pupils A5 copies to stick into their writing notebooks. Some teachers have found it useful to ask pupils in pairs, to identify those rights they endorse or disagree with - and even to suggest an eleventh right of their own.
You can download the file on the right, and print out copies for free.
